ABOUT
Sotia Katara
Mental Health Counselor - MSc in Psychology
I am a Mental Health Counselor and a member of the Hellenic Association of Counseling, with a special interest in supporting and empowering individuals and families affected by OCD and other anxiety disorders. My career began in a different field, but my path toward mental health was shaped by personal experience and a deep desire to make a meaningful contribution. I originally studied Political Sciences at the University of Surrey, UK, followed by postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics. For more than 20 years, I worked in senior Marketing and Sales roles in Greek and multinational companies. This professional background has strengthened my ability to connect with people from diverse life experiences and perspectives, always with respect and empathy.
Living with OCD myself, as well as my voluntary work in raising awareness and reducing stigma around the disorder, inspired me to pursue a new professional direction, one that would allow me to provide genuine support to others facing similar challenges. In 2024, I published the children’s book "When KiANakis Became Yiannakis Again”, written for children with OCD and their families. Through a story tailored to a child’s perspective, the book aims to bring understanding and acceptance of OCD within the family context.
In 2025, I completed the Master of Science in Psychology – Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). At the same time, I continue my studies in a four-year university program in Psychology, committed to ongoing professional and scientific development. Staying committed to the ethical principles of the counseling profession, I also engage in supervision and personal therapy as part of my continuous growth.
This website has been created as a safe and reliable space for information, awareness, and empowerment. It aims to offer scientific information and a compassionate approach to mental health, encouraging understanding, acceptance, and the elimination of stigma for individuals and families living with OCD and anxiety disorders.
